Why is this Site Here?

I’ve created this website to provide information and updates about my health status to whomever is interested because there are now so many people that ask me and my wife for updates that we cannot keep up with you all as often as we’d like to! We really appreciate all of the concern, good thoughts, prayers, and other assistance you have provided us. While we’ll do our best to keep everyone up-to-date here on this website, you’re more than welcome to ask questions of us in person if you know us personally. We understand that some of you would much rather converse face to face.

I’m probably going to add some daily life updates in here just to keep things more interesting. I don’t know about you, but a blog consisting purely of posts about cancer and doctor visits sounds pretty boring and gloomy to me!

Who am I?

My name is Ben and in early 2023 I went to the dermatologist about a mole I’d had on my leg for the past 5 years or so that I had noticed was growing and changing. Shortly after they did a biopsy of the mole, I was diagnosed with Melanoma, which the surgeon then worked quickly to remove.

I am a husband and the father of three awesome (and admittedly, sometimes frustrating) kids whom we’ve chosen to home school for many reasons, one of those reasons being that both my wife and myself were also home schooled growing up. My wife was home schooled from 1st through 12th grade. However, because I wanted to spend more time with my friends and learn some things I would not have had the opportunity to learn at home, I requested that my parents allow me to attend my local high school, which they did, so I was only home schooled from 1st through 8th grade.

I’m now a software developer and website designer by trade and I have had the privilege of working for the same software company since 2012. When I started we were just a small general IT shop and within 11 years we’ve grown into a full-fledged software provider centered in the transportation and oil and gas industries.

I also enjoy software development in my free time, though I’ve yet to create anything worthy of sharing with the world… maybe someday! I also enjoy playing computer games, console games, and watching movies, all of which are much more fun with friends and family.

And Just in Case You Were Wondering…

I chose the name of this website for a few different reasons. First and foremost, I just enjoy dragons. I enjoy the fantasy worlds and legends created around them over the centuries by many different cultures around the world.

Second, while I was researching cancer in general, I found that some people like to refer to cancer as a “dragon” and fighting cancer as “battling the dragon,” which just sounds cool to me. So, I’ve taken a fantasy creature that I already enjoy and a more serious real-life issue my family and I are dealing with and blended them together here in hopes of creating a lighthearted middle ground where I can be serious but have some fun too!

Thanks for visiting!
