I went in for another checkup at the plastic surgeon’s office today. The NP said everything is healing up nicely and recommended that I continue using the cream the dermatologist had talked to her about since it appeared to be making a positive difference. She also told me that I don’t need come in for weekly checkups anymore so she wants me to call and possibly have me send an image of my wound to them in two weeks, and then my next visit with her is scheduled a month out from today.

Back to the dermatologist today. She checked my surgery wound and said that everything was looking pretty good. She then checked me over for any signs of melanoma anywhere else on my person, now that we’ve gotten the removal of the initial spot out of the way. She said she did not find anything, so that is a relief.

We took Michelle to the Minor Emergency Center near our house this afternoon because she hadn’t been feeling well and I wanted to rule out anything we needed to worry about. After a decent wait time, they checked her out and referred us to the ER because the M.E.C. didn’t have the equipment to verify there was no issue.
We went to the ER as instructed and waited way too long (surprise, surprise) and then when they finally got her back in a room, they discovered that the issue the M.E.C. wanted checked was something they were not allowed to do at the ER and they told us we’d have to follow up at another place in town, that does have the equipment and is allowed to do that kind of check, but on a week day.
So, long story short, problem not solved. The pain that initiated the M.E.C. trip is still there, but the doctor indicated that there is no serious issue present for now. If you’re a praying person, please pray for Michelle’s health, both mentally and physically. It would be nice if we could keep it to only one of us (me) having medical issues for now. 🙂

Back to the plastic surgeon’s office on another Monday. Everything is still looking great according to them. I’ve been getting around a little easier after swapping my bandages for a compression sock. It definitely helped with mobility.

Most visits to this doctor’s office I’ve only been seen by an NP. However, the visit was scheduled a little differently this week because the plastic surgeon himself wanted to take a look at how my leg was healing. The skin graft didn’t take as well as he had hoped, but it wasn’t a total loss because a good portion of it did adhere to the wound.
Everything is still healing up well. I’ve had no complaints regarding pain, just some insatiable itching where the healing is happening. It’s just a little bit awful to itch so badly but not be able to scratch or otherwise ease the itching! Scratching at this point in the process would damage the healing skin, so I can’t touch it…

Everything is still healing up well and I’m becoming a regular here at the office. It almost feels like a second home at this point! 🙂

I got another good report at the plastic surgeon’s office today. Everything is healing up pretty nicely according to them. I did express some concern about possible infection to the nurse practitioner (NP) due to the increased red look of the wound over the past few days. So, she prescribed an antibiotic for me to take for the next eight days, just in case.

Friday, July 7th was my surgery. I came out of the anesthesia just fine, in spite of my misgivings regarding being put under. I am not really supposed to move around much as I have been instructed to keep my leg elevated as much as possible. Thankfully, even though I was told that my leg would start hurting a lot after the medicine wore off in the hospital, it actually hasn’t hurt me at all. It has been a little uncomfortable, but not painful.

It’s been a very long time, over 10 years, since I’ve had a Primary Care Physician, but this morning I met with one to have a baseline physical so he could approve me for the pending melanoma excision surgery. There wasn’t much to the visit, not as much as I was expecting at least, but he seems like a nice kid and I liked him. And yes, I said “kid” because I’m approaching 40 years old and though he was probably not much younger than me, boy did he look young! I guess I’m already turning into an old man. 🙂

We met with the plastic surgeon who, due to the size of the resulting wound from my pending excision surgery, will be taking a layer of skin from my thigh and grafting it to the melanoma excision wound to try and help speed up recovery time.
I would like to point out that this doctor impressed me because when he was discussing recovery care with us he asked us about insurance, which we do not have. When he found out we don’t have any medical insurance, he was genuinely concerned that we could be put into serious financial hardship by the bills for the services he would be providing. He made sure we knew we could discuss financial aid with his office. If you ever read this blog post, thank you sir!
